Generally, a shutter is a shield placed on the camera’s sensor, and by opening the shutter, a professional photographer determines the length of time for entering light. This determined period is called shutter speed.

However, if you have purchased Canon 5D mark IV and don’t have a clear idea about changing the shutter speed, you have come to the right place. Because through this article, I will provide a clear idea about it.

How Can You Change the Shutter Speed On Canon 5D Mark IV?

To adjust or change the aperture, you usually have to use a dial, so you have to rotate the same dial for this purpose. For shutter speed, the dial must be set to TV mode. If you like to lower the shutter speed, turn the dial to the left.

On the top of the Canon 5D, the mark IV camera is the main dial, and you can control the efforts of it in Manual mode to either change the Shutter speed or Aperture. In addition, you can use the rare dial to change the aperture’s shutter speed and the top dial.

Eventually, A fast shutter speed is necessary to capture a still image of something moving fast. For example, if you like to take photos of a flying bird, the shutter speed may be 1/8000 second or faster.

But you don’t have the speed to take all types of photos. Typically, 1/200, 1/100, or 1/60 are sufficient for slow-moving subjects without motion blur.

On your camera, you may notice a dial or ar 1/21/4. If you want to change your shutter speed, you must move the dial left or right/ arrows up or down. The format for shutter speed is generally 1/1000, 1/250, 1/30, 1/2, 1/4, etc.

However, you have to follow some different techniques for capturing outstanding images. For instance, to quick shoot, you must lower your aperture f-number, expand your ISO sensitivity range, or adjust both settings.

Different types of Shutter Speed

Shutter speed settings on most cameras include 1/500, 1/250, 1/125, 1/60, 1/30, 1/15, 1/8, and so on. Another side, some cameras will allow you to calculate the shutter speed in whole seconds, like- 1 second, 4 seconds, etc. However, the shutter speed of Canon 5D mark Iv is 1/8000 sec. to 30 sec.

How Can I Choose the Perfect Shutter Speed?

There is a rule, during your handheld shooting, your lens’ focal length should be higher than your shutter speed. So, for instance, if you have a 200mm lens for shooting, your shutter speed should be 1/200th of a second or faster to get a sharp image.

How Shutter Speed Affects Photos

If you want a brighter photo, the shutter speed should be extended. In addition, good light must strike the sensor. If the shutter speed isn’t faster and the sensor doesn’t get enough lighting, your captured images will be darker. Aside from brightness, shutter speed determines how much motion your photograph captures.

How Can You Change Your Canon Shutter Speed Within A Short Time?

You can hold the shutter open for as long as you like by holding the camera shutter button or by holding the button on a remote shutter release. Instructions from the Camera Manual likely suggested using a remote shutter release; so that camera doesn’t get disturbed and doesn’t shake.

Why ISO is Important for Shutter Speed

When you think about taking a perfect image, it’s vital to determine the exact amount of light, and the ISO setting will determine the amount of light required by the camera. If the ISO sensitivity range is higher, you can use the faster shutter speed in the reduced light scenario and the same aperture. On the other hand, when you are taking images on lower shutter speed settings, you will have to lower the ISO range.

Conclusion

Finally, it would be best if you knew about changing the shutter speed of your Canon 5D mark IV.  As mentioned earlier, light is the most crucial element for perfect photography, and shutter speed is the ultimate thing that controls the whole work of light. Thanks for reading.
